My favorite time of year, the leaves are turning colors, it's cold and crisp outstide (at least at night) and time for baking and cooking. Golidlocks has inspired me get out the boxes and start to show my stuff. Here are a few pics..... believe it or not I have 2 more boxes to go through. I thought I would get this posted yesterday, but instead had a lovely visit with our old next door neighbor. Precious times like that must be gathered as they come.

The love of my life is coming home today, just called from the Omaha airport, then on to Denver with a 2 hour lay over and finally home. Dinner tonight is already in the crockpot. Trader Joes Yellow curry sauce poured over boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Served over coucous with golden raisins and toasted almonds. Yummy !!

Tom and Linda returned to Ohio wednesday, we really enjoyed their stay with us. Hope to see them again soon.

Da Ol Bear is off again, this time to the midwest. He landed safely in Omaha and took a van on into Lincoln Nebraska. Where he will be attending the Nebraska Cornhuskers play Virginia Tech on saturday. He just called and is having the time of his life. Miss him terribily but so glad his is now doing what he truly enjoys. He will be back sunday evening. Yeah !

And by the way....saturday I will be decorating for fall....

The past week has been a worrisome one for us. Golidlocks and Da Three Bears have been in our thoughts constantly. Good news is, even as I write this they are still without power, they are all doing fine. From what I hear, this has become an adventure, the first day after Ike they were out looking for a fast food place to be open !! Love them !!


Da'ole bears cousin and wife have been with us, they came out for the infamous USC Ohio State game...much to their disappointment they came up empty handed. They are in San Diego for this week. And oh yes we celebrated Da'ole Bears birthday at Outback. Yummy.... I will be putting Da'ole Bear on the train this thursday for San Diego, where he will be spending a couple of days he is very excited.

Me too, I will be painting the back gate after work.

For over 20 years we have made a trip to Oak Glen, we always go first thing in the morning to breath in the cool crisp air. Oak Glen is known for apples, berries and cherries, and best of all Fresh Apple Cider. The trip this year was the last weekend in August, as I was on the hunt for Gravenstein apples. Growing up that was my mom's favorite for making applesauce and boiled apple dumplings. They only have a 4 week harvest, so many a trip I have missed them. This year we hit the big time and I came home with 36 pounds! The following weekend found me making applesauce and doing plenty of canning.

Applesauce

Brown Sugar

Apple Cider

Apple Pie Spice

Canning jars and lids

1. Wash apples

2. Quarter apples...do not peel

3. Put in large pot with 1 cup of apple cider

4. Cook slowly until they are soft.

5. Put through a food mill

6. Pour sauce back in pot and bring to a boil

7. Now this is all personal preference...Add brown sugar and apple pie spice to taste.

8. Sterilize the jars and lids.

9. Ladle applesauce to within a 1/2 inch of the rim, make sure the rim is dry, put on lid and tighten it down... The jar will be hot, please make sure you have a clean towel to hold with.

10. When the jar has sealed you will hear a "POP"

So far he has gone fishing and is now on a jaunt to Texas to visit with Goldilocks and da three bears. He is so enjoying being with them.
